HANOVER, Germany - Novel approaches in gene therapyvectors, biochip production and pharmacogenomics wereamong the highlights of the Innovation Forum held hereWednesday at Biotechnica '99, which attracted 792exhibitors.
Thomas Kissel, of the University of Marburg'sInstitute for Pharmacy, presented a novel system forgene delivery involving the mixture of DNA and aproprietary polymer molecule to form the vectorsystem. The novel polymer is non-toxic and consists ofsmall molecules that are taken up together with theDNA very rapidly by the target cells. Kissel said thetechnology should be ready for clinical studies withinfive years.
