The ads depicted conventional razors morphing into fire-breathing monsters and fanged serpents, like an animated dream turned Halloween nightmare.

Yesterday, though, a federal judge ruled the spots have no teeth.

U.S. District Court Judge Reginald Lindsay sided with Norelco Consumer Products Co., ruling Gillette Co. never proved that the ads misled consumers. The decision may end the protracted legal battle.

Norelco's ads, including one demonic spot in which a razor twisted its blade head in a circle like a scene from "The Exorcist," possessed Gillette's lawyers for three years.
