Oct. 6 -- On the cusp of the 21st century, Kansas has a technical school system built for the 1960s.
The state's 11 technical schools and colleges can teach students to build and repair computers and high-tech information networks, preparing them for well paying jobs. But those seeking the training might just as well take a number.
Between 500 and 1,000 students statewide are on waiting lists to enter high-tech programs, estimates John Lind, director of the Kansas City, Kan. Area Technical School and president of the Kansas Association of Technical Schools.
