Article: Hancock County, Ky., Unemployment Rate Almost Doubles from Year Ago.

Oct. 6 -- A recent report from the Kentucky Cabinet for Workforce Statistics states unemployment rates in Hancock County nearly doubled between August 1998 and August 1999, rising to 11 percent.

The report, which was released Sept. 30, said Hancock County's unemployment rose by 5.1 percent during that 12-month period. In August 1998, the Cabinet gauged Hancock County's unemployment rate at 5.9 percent.

The increase gives Hancock County the seventh-highest county unemployment rate in the state and the highest in the area. Daviess County's August 1999 unemployment rate was 5.4 percent. The report gauged ...
