The BJP retains power, but its partners could be even more troublesome
IT WAS a victory for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies, but less a vote of confidence. Most of the way through the counting of votes in India's third general election in little more than three years, it appeared that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and a few companion parties outside the alliance would win around 295 of parliament's 543 elected seats, a workable majority.
