There'll be time to look deeper, and more comprehensively, at the biography Dutch, by Edmund Morris, but the publishing arrangements require that some things get said punctually, in response to bits and pieces of the book that have got out, most accessibly, the segment in Newsweek magazine. The publisher's tight control of the book itself excluded circulation up until two or three days ago. And except for book critics, whose discipline requires that for certain publishing ventures they set all other concerns to one side, you can't expect an 800-odd page book to have been read 24 hours after it becomes available.
