Fairfax County supervisors yesterday signed a three-year deal with Lockheed Martin that will cost $7 million to operate 10 red-light cameras in the county, the latest jurisdiction to turn to technology for policing.
A potential conflict of interest has motorist-advocacy groups concerned because the contractor will receive a fee for every ticket sent out in Fairfax, just as Lockheed Martin's deal with the District stipulates. That creates an incentive to use cameras to raise money, not to increase safety, they said.
