ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Oct. 12 (UPI)
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his brother have been taken into protective custody, says a government announcement following an apparent coup in Pakistan.
Sharif's brother, Shahbaz Sharif, serves as chief minister of Punjab, the prime minister's home province.
Earlier, troops surrounded the prime minister's official Islamabad residence, disarmed his guards and asked that Sharif remain inside.
However, Sharif's whereabouts were not clear. Initial reports said he was at the state-run television station when troops entered and interrupted a TV news broadcast. Shortly after troops were seen ...
