Oct. 8 -- When HealthFirst started as one of three state health plans for Medicaid recipients in 1996, organizers believed it was economically feasible.
However, changing state laws and Medicaid reimbursement plans, along with traditional ideas about health care, have caused the company's leaders to change their minds. Three months after getting out of the Medicaid business, HealthFirst announced Wednesday that it would cease all operations at the end of the year.
