Oct. 13 -- Fort Worth finally has a cattle herd to drive down the streets of Cowtown, and it's using it, along with the rest of its Wild West heritage, to lure foreign tourists intrigued by the cowboy culture.
International travelers are becoming an increasingly important segment of the state's tourism business, accounting for more than 11 percent of the $34.6 billion industry in 1998.
In Fort Worth, 1.7 percent of the 6.7 million visitors to the city in 1998 came from outside the country, a percentage the Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau is trying to increase.
