With all due respect to World War II Battle of the Bulge legend George S. Patton, old soldier George McAvoy of Littleton, N.H., thinks the troops at Bastogne that Patton's 3rd Army rescued deserve more credit.
And on today's 54th anniversary, McAvoy, 78, is reminding the world it was his unit, the 9th Armored Division, and others that bore of the brunt of the original German onslaught.
"Don't take anything away from anybody, but recognize the others that earned it, too," says McAvoy.
"Many of the units had half their men killed or wounded."
