A Norfolk County jury has awarded $6.7 million to four former home-office employees at Ground Round Inc. who claimed they were fired because of their ages.
"We brought in witnesses that testified to our performance," said David Halligan, 56, a former Ground Round accountant. He was fired by the Braintree restaurant chain in 1992.
Halligan, along with Robert Whitelaw, Teresa McCarthy and Carlton Stasiowski, were all between 44 and 50 when they were fired. Each had between 24 and 32 years experience with Ground Round or its previous owner, Howard Johnson Co. Their Superior Court suit alleged they were replaced by younger employees at lower pay.
