Vincent M. Rafferty of Canton, a retired Canton police detective, died Friday at Caritas Norwood Hospital. He was 60.
Born in County Donegal, Ireland, Mr. Rafferty was raised and educated there. He moved to America as a young man. He graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in criminal justice.
Mr. Rafferty joined the Canton Police Department in 1964. He was forced to retire from the force in 1985 because of a heart condition. He and his wife founded Velhar Realty Trust and Mr. Rafferty became a building contractor. He constructed homes in Canton as well as other towns on the South Shore.
