At sundown tonight, Jews around the world will start celebrating Rosh Hashana, the high holiday that marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year.
"It's a time when we look at our past year and a time of soul-searching," said Marlene Joslin, a member of Temple Beth Shalom in Melrose.
Also known as the Day of Remembrance, Rosh Hashana marks the beginning of the year 5759 on the Hebrew calendar. The holiday also begins a 10-day period of reflections known as the High Holy Days that lasts until Yom Kippur.
Joslin said the most famous Jewish tradition at Rosh Hashana is the blowing of the shofar, a ram's horn, during the temple service. Another ...
