QUECHEE, Vt. -- Things didn't go quite the way John Hickson figured they would after he shot a 74 in the first round of the 25th New England Open on Tuesday.
He won the tournament.
Hickson was down 8 shots after his 2-over-par opener on the Lakeland course.
"After that I was just hoping to get back to even-par for the tournament," said Hickson, 34, of the Bethel Inn in Maine. "But then I was 4 under in the second round (with a 68 on the Highland course)."
