Former Mayor Kevin H. White, breaking a long silence about his stormy 16-year City Hall reign, conceded he "abused" some of his powers and said he believes the busing crisis buried his once bright national aspirations.
"After (George) McGovern got beaten (in 1972), I really thought I had a shot at the presidency," White said during a three-hour Herald interview. "Busing came and ended that. It was just over. Then I was faced with the thought I was going to be mayor permanently."
White, now 69 but with the same intensity and piercing blue eyes, is briefly coming out of his self-imposed political exile to stump for his daughter, Patricia, 28, who is ...
