Sheer entertainment is a very important part of successful baseball. For example, on the rare occasions Nomar Garciaparra isn't fun to watch, the Red Sox usually lose.
Garciaparra was the only Showtime in a C-Span of a ball game last night, so the Sox beat the Twins, 4-2.
Garciaparra made three of his matchless plays from deep in the shortstop hole. He also had a two-run double in the seventh inning that provided the margin of victory. For the 20,882 who bought tickets, the Sox shortstop was the one figure in the game who might've created repeat customers.
