Hundreds of the South End's most playful pooches and friskiest felines romped over Franklin Square with their proud owners in tote yesterday for the neighborhood's second annual Pet Pride celebration.

More than 250 area pet owners entered their furry housemates in contests during the afternoon-long event, which also featured informational tables run by local vendors and pet advocates.

"We wanted to have a fun event that would bring the community together and help children be more educated about pet ownership," said event organizer Rouben Madikians, a longtime South End resident. ...
