Special to the Herald
Billings is home to several cultural and historical attractions that make the city much more than merely a way station for travelers.
The Yellowstone Art Museum offers an excellent collection of contemporary art. Located in the former county jail, it features Western art by contemporary masters and historical favorites such as Will James and Charles Russell. Art lovers will be thrilled to see art they've only seen in books and magazines. Chuck Forman's master painting "Zimmerman Trail" measures 41 by 64 inches, and it's impossible to appreciate until you've seen the color juxapositions and impastos (heavy paint layering) up close.
