Anna-Marie Holmes, artistic director of the Boston Ballet, has traded gifts with the New York-based American Ballet Theatre, and both are richer for the transaction.
Holmes brought her production of the 19th century Russian ballet "Le Corsaire" to ABT and in turn was given a dream cast to perform the work. Seldom have a ballet and a troupe of dancers been so perfectly matched in a work that offers so many good roles for a company in its prime.
When Holmes produced the work, renamed "The Pirate," with the Boston Ballet last year, it seemed a hodge-podge of a story which made no sense. The ballet, based on Lord Byron's 1814 poem "The Corsair," tells of ...
