DETROIT - Brian Rose will never forget the night he won his first major league game. Brian Shouse will probably always remember his American League debut.
Both happened here Tuesday night. Rose worked seven strong innings to beat the Tigers and Shouse mopped up in the ninth of the Red Sox' 11-4 victory.
While Rose was making his fifth start for the Red Sox (fourth this year), Shouse was making his seventh major league appearance, his first since a brief stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates five years ago.
For Rose, the long wait for his first win was over. For Shouse, it was the climax of a long day getting back to the big leagues.
