Call it what you want - new music, free jazz or avant-garde adventurism. By any name, it's alive and healthy in Boston.
And that's a welcome change.
During the next three months, new music luminaries Dave Bryant, Marty Ehrlich, Myra Melford and Dave Douglas are slated to appear as part of an ambitiously expanded new jazz series presented by the Boston Creative Music Alliance.
And for three days, Oct. 17-19, many of Boston's strongest new music groups will perform in an event dubbed "Autumn Uprising" at Eliot Hall in Jamaica Plain.
