One of Ken Garside's earliest boyhood memories is driving in a Chevy to Elliot's Famous Hot Dogs, the Lowell stand his father bought in 1964.

"If I close my eyes, I can still see the way it was lit up at night," Garside said.

The almost magical vision of Elliot's hooked Garside. He ended up becoming general manager of the business seven years ago, when his father, John Garside, retired to a farm in New Hampshire.

Customers also appear to be charmed by the restaurant, which aspires to be nothing more than what it is - a hot dog stand whose motto is "to serve the best-tasting hot dog at a fair price." Here, soda is more popular than mineral water ...
