With two innings of scoreless relief yesterday, Jim Corsi proved once again that he's as good a fortune-teller as he is a pitcher.
The 35-year-old's 3.51 ERA is second-lowest on the staff. His hitless stint yesterday in the Sox' 6-4 win over the Kansas City Royals at Fenway Park solidified his second-half surge during which he has posted a 0.68 ERA in his last 26 1/3 innings.
That's a far cry from the pitcher who was hefting an 8.68 ERA into early May. But even then, Corsi could not stop telling all who asked that it was still too early to count him out.
