Even more than the "1812 Overture," John Philip Sousa's "The Stars and Stripes Forever" is probably the piece most people associate with the Boston Pops. What would a Pops concert be without the exuberant Sousa march, complete with solo piccolo trio, the unfurling of Old Glory over the stage, and the release of hundreds of colored balloons over the audience?
This year, the "Stars and Stripes" is 100 years old and it appears that the march, Boston and the Pops have been linked from the beginning.
