Spare us, please, the Hosannas from the right, declaring that America's racial problems are completely overcome - or would be but for affirmative action ("Author to again take Clinton to task on race," Dec. 19). Is Abigail Thernstrom right that black Harvard graduates are spared the effects of employment discrimination? Perhaps, at the beginning of their careers. But even so, there are myriad other avenues through which discrimination can present itself.
Those who once decried "radical" confrontation with racism, and insisted on the need for gradual solutions, now maintain that change has been quick and is near-complete.
