Fifteen years ago, when Bob Meenan and his daughter served their first Thanksgiving dinner to the homeless, they would do it again.
"I'll never forget that first year," said Meenan, dean of Boston University's School of Public Health, describing how his then 7-year-old chatted comfortably with residents of the Pine Street Inn.
Since that day, giving of themselves has become a holiday tradition for Meenan and his children. "For us, it's part of giving back to the community," he said. "I didn't just want to write a check, which is relatively painless. I wanted to deal with people and wanted the kids to do that too."
