Rookie of the Year is the only baseball award that raises more questions than answers.
Nomar Garciaparra was named the American League's finest first-year player yesterday.
The announcement did not end months of nail-biting suspense. The Red Sox shortstop had been a lock for the award since the All-Star break. Garciaparra had the best season of any AL rook since Oakland first baseman Mark McGwire in 1987.
Yet despite creating a season's worth of profound joy for Red Sox fans, certainly the only joy to be had in these parts, Garciaparra must face the inevitable query confronting all Rookies of the Year.
What next? Will he turn in 10-15 ...
