Some time in August, long after the Red Sox were eliminated from playoff contention, Nomar Garciaparra secured the American League Rookie of the Year award.
All that was left to be determined was whether anyone else would garner serious consideration.
The answer came yesterday.
It was Nomar in a landslide.
Capping off an extraordinary debut season in which he broke an assortment of team, league and baseball records, Garciaparra was unanimously named the AL Rookie of the Year.
