The diet pill craze appears to be history.
One of the Bay State's largest chains of diet pill centers announced yesterday it will no longer prescribe "fen/phen," the controversial weight-loss drugs that have been linked to a host of medical problems.
"The numbers of patients who suffer heart and vascular problems from fen/phen seem to increase by the day," said Andrew Rudnick, director of Medical Weight Loss Centers.
Rudnick, who claims to have lost 60 pounds by taking fen/phen, said the recent studies linking the drugs to heart and lung problems and even possibly to brain damage "are too overwhelming to ignore."
