The rapper Tupac Shakur completed his work on the film "Gang Related" on a Friday in September 1996, and left the next day for Las Vegas. It was there, while driving in a car with music mogul Suge Knight, that Shakur was shot and killed.

Shakur plays a corrupt cop in "Gang Related," which arrives in theaters Wednesday. In the 13 months since his death, he has become an Elvislike industry, selling records, videos and movies.

But his starry if ghoulish attraction, a mixture of curiosity, homage and appreciation, is hardly unique.

Indeed, Hollywood has a long history of stars who died at the peak of their fame and left movies to be released ...
