Spiritual and political leaders joined yesterday morning to unite Boston's Catholic congregations for Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week.
The parishioners of 12 local Catholic churches gathered at the Parkman Bandstand on Boston Common, where Mayor Thomas M. Menino, Bernard Cardinal Law and area clergymen addressed hundreds of faithful church-goers.
"It's become a way for people to come together and recognize that they're part of a much larger community," Menino said of the annual event, which began in 1989.
