Dieters hope fads can provide cabbage soup for their soul
Spring is the season for fad diets, according to the American Heart Association. That's why this spring the AHA has declared war on what it considers "short-term solutions to a long-term problem." Public enemy No. 1 is the cabbage soup diet, now in its second year of photocopied circulation and often misidentified as the Heart Association diet.
The news astounded me. How had a diet possibly been around for two years, so successful that it could be the Heart Association's prime target, and I'd never even tried it?
