The superintendent for the beleaguered Mattapoisett school whose coach was charged with raping two students defended school officials yesterday, saying they reported complaints about him promptly to proper authorities.
The statements came as the coach, John A. Shockro, agreed to take a leave of absence from another job as Mattapoisett athletic director.
Shockro, 49, was charged last week with the rapes of two female students between June 1994 and September 1996, following a complaint by one of the victims in January.
A Plymouth County grand jury was to begin hearing evidence this week on the case, which involves two girls who were 13 and 16 when ...
