The adoring masses were faithful to the high priest of custom cars last weekend.
At the 23rd annual Auto Palace World of Wheels, a constant stream of pilgrims, acolytes, sycophants and gearheads paid homage at Ed "Big Daddy" Roth's display, drooling over his latest hot rod, scooping up his cartoon artwork, and generally paying respects to the creator of Rat Fink.
"You're the king, Ed!" enthused one customer, barely restrained by a velvet rope. "I love your work!"
Big Daddy didn't miss a beat.
"Well," he said in his slow drawl, "keep being weird - 'coz I draw what I see."
It was 37 years ago that Ed Roth first drew Rat Fink. ...
