Divers have confirmed that a ship found on the bottom of Lake Champlain is a Revolutionary War gunboat commanded by America's most infamous traitor, Benedict Arnold.
"This is one of the truly great maritime archaeological discoveries in the last half-century," said Art Cohn, curator of the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum.
The 54-foot gunboat is "in an excellent state of preservation, sitting upright on the bottom, its mast still standing over 50 feet high and its large bow cannon still in place," Cohn said.
