HALLANDALE, Fla. - The 46th running of the Florida Derby featured Pulpit and . . . seven other horses.
The attention of the 27,104 fans was so fixed on thoroughbred racing's newest star that no one seemed to notice that Captain Bodgit's name was misspelled on an infield sign.
That's Bodgit, with an "i," not an "e." But, then again, the 3-year-old colt who pulled off a dramatic upset over Pulpit is not what he seems to be.
The way his left front leg looks, Captain Bodgit shouldn't be able to outrun Captain Kangaroo. But the 7-2 second choice with the "funny-looking tendon" was too much for Claiborne Farm's physical specimen, kicking in with a ...
