Three decades ago, Americans were humming "Lara's Theme," a romantic yet haunting tune that coursed throughout the award-winning film, "Dr. Zhivago," - a romance story set in pre-Revolutionary Russia.
Like the movie, the music is timeless. The essence of Russian folk music lies in its combination of old romances, spirited marches and folk dance music.
This weekend, The Washington Balalaika Society, a 45-member orchestra, presents a "Russian Mosaic" - an evening of Russian music and songs with world renown virtuoso soloists from Moscow.
