New York--Asian Americans For Equality was established 25 years ago to combat discrimination against newly arrived immigrants. According to Christopher Kui, AAFE executive director, the new Asian immigrant population tends to have very weak English language skills, making them vulnerable.

"We have found the conditions of their housing to be inadequate, and they are not aware of their rights as tenants, such as the right to heat and hot water," he said. Also, some of these immigrants fall prey to Asian brokers charging high fees and mortgage rates.
