Commerce Secretary William Daley urged Middle Eastern states on Sunday to boost trade to attract badly needed foreign investment.
Speaking at the end of a nine-day tour of the region that included Jordan, Israel, the West Bank, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia, Daley said that the Middle East trails other parts of the world in foreign investment, receiving only 2% of all foreign investment in the world.
Accompanied by executives from 20 US companies, Daley has pressed Middle East leaders to lower tariffs and other trade barriers to strengthen trade ties and investment.
