Here we are, having emerged as the dominant power after the Cold War, having benefited more than any other nation from a relatively strong global economy, and yet we can't seem to take yes for an answer. The Senate's vote to reject the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty is an abrogation of American world leadership by lawmakers who view foreign engagements as dangerous entanglements, who consider the United Nations a threat to U.S. security, and who see our defense of human rights around the world as romantic sentimentality.
In rejecting the first major treaty since Versailles, the Senate continued a pattern of withdrawal that borders on xenophobia. The vote ...
