The asia/pacific paints and coatings sector is on a rebound after demand tumbled about 10% in 1998. ICI, the region's largest supplier, with a market share of around 8%, expects the regional market to grow 4%-5% this year and 6%-7% next year. Growth may achieve double-digit rates in some countries, including India, the company says.
Growth expectations also vary by sector. The commercial building sector in China is stagnating, but residential housing is booming, says Chew Gaik Hean, v.p./ICI Paints Asia.
