Meeting planners are used to thinking on their feet. But a seller's market for meeting space, rapid personnel turnover at hotels and other venues, and leaner event budgets have been testing their ability to go with the flow.
Kelly Robertson, events manager for Comshare Inc., an Ann Arbor-based financial software company, said good economic times have been a boon to local hotels and other meeting venues. With so much business, she said, meeting venues feel less pressure to offer perks such as a liberal allotment of free hotel rooms.
``It's astronomical what it costs, especially with food and beverage,'' she said of meeting venues.
