Article: Teamsters to back candidates in both parties, Hoffa says.(Nation)

Newly elected Teamsters President James P. Hoffa says the union will "take a bipartisan approach" to supporting political candidates.

"We're going to be bipartisan . . . unlike the previous administration," which was strongly in the Democratic fold, Mr. Hoffa said yesterday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Before Ron Carey became president, the Teamsters was one of the few major labor organizations to support Republican candidates, and Mr. Hoffa pledged yesterday to return to that tradition.
