The recent canonization of Edith Stein by the Catholic Church is an insult to the 6 million Jews who perished during the Holocaust, to the countless survivors of concentration camps and to the Jewish community as a whole ("Sainting of Stein upsets top Jews," Oct. 12).
The Catholic Church's stance on the Holocaust has always been ambiguous. Only recently has the Church begun to speak openly about the Holocaust, but these appeasements have not been to defend the Church's actions (or the lack thereof) throughout the Nazi regime, but simply to acknowledge that the Holocaust occurred.
