If it was a notorious urban problem, it could probably be found at the Edgewood Terrace housing complex in Northeast during the 1980s and into this decade.
From chunks of crack-cocaine lying the hallways to gunfights in the neighborhood surrounding the complex, Edgewood had it all.
It also had various good Samaritans, residents and federal and D.C. government helpers doing what they could to preserve a little patch of community in the urban jungle. But the battle was more often lost than won.
