They couldn't, could they?
They couldn't tear down Yankee Stadium in favor of a shiny new venue somewhere in Greater Noo Yawk?
That would be the equivalent of sporting sacrilege, of spitting on the flag, of telling Santa Claus to visit Weight Watchers. Yes, and of moving the Capitol to Reston, Buckingham Palace to Liverpool or the Vatican to Sicily.
Forget it. It couldn't happen.
Trouble is, it could. To paraphrase Lawrence Peter Berra, the most uniquely articulate of Yankees, the Bronx has so much crime and so many derelicts that nobody likes going there anymore. There is much talk of building a stadium somewhere in Manhattan ...
