The Senate Foreign Relations Committee yesterday heard heart-wrenching stories of parents trapped in a maze of legalities, fighting foreign governments alone as they try to get back children abducted in bitter matrimonial disputes.
"My Austrian ex-wife . . . unlawfully abducted our American-born daughter, Corina, from the United States to Austria on Oct. 30, 1995, when she was only 13 months old," Thomas Sylvester told the committee, which is also reviewing extradition treaties.
