Your Sept. 2 article "Reducing fat can be overdone, report says," concerns a study recently released by the American Heart Association (AHA). The article should serve as a wake-up call to the "fat police," whose agenda is to equate the health consequences of fat consumption with those of smoking or excessive alcohol consumption. The AHA research reminds us that consumed properly, fats are a vital part of everyone's diet to maintain good health.
Good nutrition includes a diet that contains an average daily intake of 30 percent of calories from fat. Scientific evidence to date indicates that very low-fat diets should not be recommended for all Americans. ...
