NASA's art program is well-grounded in the past and the future.
"The space program is about hopes and dreams and opportunities, and the art helps express hope for the future of a vibrant America," says NASA Administrator Daniel Goldin, one of the art program's biggest boosters.
In fact, his office displays a painting showing Mars 50 years hence and another one in the reception area is of the space shuttle from the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey."
